Willie Bester, born in 1956 in Montagu, Western Cape, lives and works in Cape Town.

Bester has had no formal art education. His introduction to art was through a Community Arts Project, where he met people who expressed their political views through art.

He later became one of the most important South African resistance artists of the 1990s.

His exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, showcase his critical engagement with political, social, and economic injustice through his art. Bester's works are part of prestigious collections worldwide, and he has received several awards recognizing his contributions to the arts.

In his paintings, assemblages and sculptures he often uses found materials. Bester's art focuses on human rights and injustice.
