Pume Bylex

Democratic Republic of the Congo
1968
His work engages in a unique artistic exploration beyond the tangible realities of Kinshasa, creating a world centered on perfection and harmony.

Pume Bylex, a Congolese artist, is known for looking beyond the immediate realities of Kinshasa towards a vision of perfection and harmony. His work has been showcased in significant venues like the Halle de la Gombe in Kinshasa and the Revue Noire gallery in Paris.

Coming from a family of craftsmen, with his father working as a carpenter, Pume attended school and earned a diploma in education, but he was not drawn to teaching children and felt compelled to follow his true calling. His interest in logic, cause and effect, and the sciences can be traced back to his fascination with film projectors, which he observed endlessly running in cinemas. He wondered, "If the inventors of this machine are neither God nor angels, then why not me?"
